On UN day, which was very fun, we had a more or less usual day, except for the fact that everyone was dressed in cultural dress. But at 12:45, everything changed. Lunch began.
UN day lunch was national food, each family/person brought in a national food, and our tables were called to choose food, help ourselves to eat on plastic plates.
After lunch, a normal recess...
Then all the fifth grade classes went to the theatre and the classes, in pairs, that is pairs of classes, and showed presentations. Our class was with Mr. Medved's class and our topic was Literacy Around The World. We had all sorts of countries, in groups of four, and each group had a powerpoint. There were places like Brazil and Thailand, and my group was New Zealand. Harrison, Erica, Carissa, and I worked together and told everyone...
The literacy rate for males is 99% and so is the female literacy rate. Ages 4+ know their abc's. Ages 15+ can read and write. The literacy rate in New Zealand is considered very high.
UN day was really fun! My favorite part was the presentation. Of all the presentations, I think ours was the best! I was a bit nervous but not for long. It feels great to teach other people.
